Mactan or Maktan is one of the major tourist islands in Cebu. There are a number of attractions and sites you ought to check out when you're out and about the island.

Head on down to the Punta Engaño Wharf. The pier is located at the southern edge of Lapu-Lapu City beside Mövenpick Hotel (formerly Hilton Hotel). If you're planning for an island hopping trip, you could rent a boat there.

Let's take a crash course on history and go to the Lapu-Lapu Shrine. Don't worry about entrance fees and such. It's absolutely free!

In honor of the Cebuano hero, a 20 meter bronze statue stands in the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City.

For the grumbling stomachs of the happy adventurers, stop by for some SuTuKil or Sugba, Tuwa ug Kilaw. Manna STK Food House is a popular SuTuKil restaurant on island, located just a few meters from Mactan Shrine. Choose from the fresh seafood and have it served your way: grilled (sugba), stewed (tuwa) or raw (kilaw).

Cebu is home to the best guitar craftsmen in the country. To find durable and quality guitars, check out the Alegre Guitar Factory in Abuno, Lapu-Lapu City.

The price range is quite high but if you're looking for quality, it is worth the cost. Contact them at (032) 505-0706 or alegreguitar@yahoo.com.

A new addition to the sites in Mactan to see is the hip and modern Mactan Newton.

It's a well-designed township by the beach that is a one-stop destination for people to live, work and play.

If you're in for some shopping, drop by Mactan's complete commercial hub - The Outlets at Pueblo Verde in Lapu-Lapu City.
